Matt Brown, Democratic candidate for Governor of Rhode Island, will be the guest speaker at the Executives Association of RI meeting on Tuesday, June 19th. The group will meet at noon. Brown will speak from 1 to 1:30 pm.
The meeting is held at the offices of New England Association Services at 2400 Post Road in Warwick. The meeting is open to the public, but by RSVP-only, due to limited space.
Brown will be the 4th candidate for Governor to speak at the EARI series.
Twenty-five years ago, Brown co-founded and led City Year Rhode Island, which has enlisted thousands of young people to tutor and mentor younger children and meet critical needs in RI communities. City Year has grown to 28 cities across the country.
In 2002, Brown was elected to Secretary of State. As Secretary of State, he worked to improve RI’s elections system. The state built first computerized voter registration system during his tenure. It also launched the Motor Voter e-Registration, which was the nation’s first electronic voter registration system.
Eleven years ago, he co-founded Global Zero, an international organization that works to reduce the catastrophic risk of nuclear confrontation. The organization seeks to eliminate nuclear weapons worldwide. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon once said, “Global Zero is grassroots activism at its finest.” Global Zero has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Brown, and his wife, Marisa, live in Providence with their two children, Ella (12) and Walker (9).
