Joanne’s Journey to Sorrento’s

Baby it’s cold outside! And let me be the first to say I hate winter! Sometimes you just feel like having some comfort food! You can’t always get what you want, but we found a good Italian restaurant right in North Providence!

Sorrento’s Restaurant is located on 1848 Smith street in North Providence.  There is plenty of parking in the plaza which it is located. You have to look for it because it is nestled in the corner of the plaza and it looks small but really is a good size.

The menu is full of Italian pastas and dishes like chicken and veal Parmigiana, chicken and veal Milanese, spaghetti puttanesca, pasta and meatballs. There is something for everyone on the menu. Sandwiches, pasta dishes and Italian entrees are plentiful.

The appetizers are also delicious! We ordered calamari with hot peppers and it was one of the best  I have ever had. The calamari was crunchy in a batter with hot peppers, garlic and oil. My sister Jeanne used to make this dish, sorry no one can compare to her calamari but this came close.

Our waitress Shannon is such a treasure. Her personality and kindness makes you feel at home.  She remembers all the customers and always gets your order right. This night, she was alone as a waitress and very, busy but she kept up with the task and still did an excellent job.

I ordered the Veal  Milanese which came with angel hair Aglio with garlic and oil laced with anchovies and black olives.  Both were excellent. The sure sign of excellent veal is when you can cut it with your folk because it is tender. The angel hair was light and hot with a tiny pieces of garlic. We also had the  sirloin steak which was a good size and piping hot.  It was served with baked potato and vegetables. I wish I had room for dessert but I did not.

There is a full bar and the martinis are good. This night I had a non alcoholic Shirley Temple, which was good and brought back memories of yesteryear. Service was good and the food is served with a smile.

What more can you ask for? Maybe a hot coffee with a piece of chocolate cake!

So if you are looking for a little comfort in a Italian kitchen that may remind you of Mama, take a journey to “Sorrento’s Italian Restaurant “. It’s the closest thing to eating in Mama’s kitchen you can get! Buon Apetito! Ento
