Garrett Sawaia: Turn Those Resolutions Into Results With 3 Steps

With my 12-years experience in the health and fitness industry, I can tell you that New Year’s resolutions fail for three main reasons. Those reasons are a lack of a plan, a lack of patience, and a lack of consistency.

We’re three weeks into the New Year. Now is not the time to give up.  

Follow these 3 simple steps to help you stay on track and motivated toward your goals.

Step 1.

Make a plan.

Like I said in my last article, accountability is key. It is always harder going at something alone. Find a fitness program. Make sure that it is being lead by experienced and credible trainer or coach to help you set a plan of action based on your goals and current fitness level.   

Step 2.

Be Patient.

I get it. People want a quick fix–instant gratification, and all that. Well, I am here to tell you that does not exist. At least not if you’re looking for long-term results. Usually, when people do not see results right away, they mentally give up. Incorrectly, they assume that their hard work isn’t paying off.  

Trust me when I say this: it is paying off. Make sure you set smaller goals that help you lead up to your long term goals. This approach will help keep you focused and more accomplished along the way. Trust the process.

Step 3.

ABC = Always Be Consistent.

I learned this from Martin Rooney who is a world renowned coach. He said, “a little, a lot  is greater than  a lot, a little.” Sounds, confusing, right? It’s not.

What that means is simply this; If you just do a little bit of something all the time, that will always be more effective long-term than if you do a lot of something, but only a little bit of time.

For example, if you only have 30 minutes a day to workout, but you work out for 30 minutes and 5 times a week, you will see more long-term and consistent results than if you worked out for 2 hours just once a week.

In the same respect, if you make small positive changes to your eating habits, and you stick with those little changes everyday for 3 months, you will see more results than if you ate really healthy all-day but only for 4 days a month.  

Make Sense, right?

Look, fitness is a long-term lifestyle. If you stick with it, you’ll achieve great feats–things you never thought you could. But beware, there will be plenty of obstacles along the way.

If you are reading this, and already feel you are starting to fall off the horse with your health and fitness resolutions, now is the time to persevere. To continue the metaphor, If you’ve fallen off, now is the perfect time to get back up.

This is still just the beginning of 2018 and plenty of successes to be had.
